MERRAG owns and operates a special purpose mobile communications van, known by the acronym MERV – the MERRAG Emergency Response Vehicle. MERV is designed to function as a district-wide communications hub should the normal communications dispatch center fail. MERV is equipped with high-power radios that enable communications between the MERRAG two-way radio system, the Montecito Fire District radio system, and the various radio systems of the City and County of Santa Barbara
MERV is further equipped with a generator, solar cell, and batteries to provide it with its own mobile emergency power for up to 72 hours. MERV is air conditioned and can serve as a respite space for weary firefighters.
